Condensation coefficient for interphase mass transfer between liquid and vapor is studied based on the transition state theory and molecular dynamics study in this paper. As shown in the previous study, the condensation coefficient is obtained to be a ratio of partition functions for activated complexes to those for gas. It is also pointed out that the condensation coefficient depends on the activation energy and the degree of translation freedom for activated complex, while it is difficult to determine them. This paper presents an evaluation of the activated state condition by applying the results of our molecular dynamics simulations for argon and water. It is found that the activation energy and the translation partition function are very important to estimate the condensation coefficient, and the previous studies can not explain the condensation coefficient and evaporation coefficient.
