A simplified thermal process model of a radiant furnace for optical coatings on a television glass bulb has been developed and proven to be valid in the thermal and structural analysis. It is found that the critical tensile stress of the bulb is generated near the middle of the bulb edge sides, and the less the temperature difference between the screen face and the skirt face of the bulb is achieved, the less thermal stresses of the bulb are generated. The initial investigation for reducing the thermal stresses of the bulb has been done with the distance (the gap) between the preceding bulb and the following bulb varied. An increase of the distance results in the reduction of the stresses to some degree.
