A swirl gas-liquid two-phase flow is used in cyclone separators of gas-liquid two-phase flow to remove small bubbles from gas-liquid two-phase mixtures. However, the characteristics of the swirl gas-liquid two-phase flow are not clarified. In the present study, flow patterns were observed in swirl gas-liquid two-phase flow. The test section was a vertical pipe of a 30 mm I.D. and approximately 8m height. The flow patterns were classified into four groups: chain flow, twist flow, spiral flow and twist froth flow in the present experimental ranges. Flow regime map for the swirl gas-liquid two-phase flow was also obtained. Effects of volumetric fluxes of each phase on swirl lengths were examined. It is clarified that the swirl length was strongly influenced by liquid volumetric flux.
