The purpose of this study was to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of HVAC evaporator for design parameters such as a fin type, a tube circuit and a fin pitch. Thus, heat transfer characteristics for design parameters were experimentally analyzed for finned tube evaporators. Two fin types and three tube circuits and two fin pitches were tested. The heat transfer rate and the air heat transfer coefficient were obtained. Refrigerant-side averaged heat transfer coefficient was calculated by using a simulation program for a refrigeration cycle. From the present experiment, it was found that the heat transfer rate and the heat transfer coefficient of the evaporators were considerably affected by the design parameters such as a tube type, a tube circuit and a fin pitch and the heat transfer rate and the heat transfer coefficient increase, with increasing inlet air velocity.
