The heat transfer characteristics of supercritical fluids is so peculiar because of its unusual transition of physical properties. When proper heat flux is given to the fluids, the heat transfer coefficient is known to be drastically enhanced or decreased. Some of its behaviors are experimentally revealed although there is few case of proof by visual observation. Visualization measurement of the upward flow of supercritical carbon dioxide in the condition of forced convection heat transfer is tried in this study. Mach-Zehnder interferometer and white light illumination were applied for measurement of density distribution and flow structure, respectively. Interferometer was succesfully applied for them in small heat input area. The white light illumination experiment showed the boiling-like phenomenon which is one of the feature of supercritical fluid. Thus flow visualizations for supercritical flow were accomplished.
