Microwave heating is one of the most interesting methods for heating materials. When an incident microwaves is directly irradiated to a high dielectric material, major part of wave is reflected on the surface of the material. In order to avoid the reflection, it is available to attach a low dielectric material on the high dielectric material as a protecting material. In this study, the heating of multi-layered material by microwaves using a rectangular wave guide has been investigated theoretically and experimentally. The effect of a protecting material on the heating of dielectric materials is clarified in detail, considering the interference between incident and reflecting waves in the materials. Based on a model combined the electromagnetic and temperature fields, the predicted results are in agreement with the experimental results using multi-layered material.
