A numerical study is presented for temperature field in multi-channel, narrow-gap fuel element. Results are reported both in the absence and presence of water film, oxidized aluminum film and uranium distortion. These results present a quantitative analysis on the effects of water film, oxidized aluminum coating and uranium distortion on the surface temperature in the channels. The numerical predictions are critically assessed by comparing with the experimental data. The comparison indicates that the numerical approach presented in this paper is capable of predicting the temperature field of the multi-channel fuel element, thus providing a useful method for application in the reactor engineering.
