Concerning the cooling of electronics systems, a sole objective is to enhance a coolability and consideration on accompanying demerit factors like pressure loss increase does not seem very important. It is said to be enough only to take them for subordinate constraints. But in forced convective cooling specifically, the enhancement of coolability can never be accomplished without the increase in fluid friction loss which induces the increase in fan/blower power and increase in acoustic noise level as well, which are disadvantages for electronics systems. The assessment of a global performance of electronics cooling including both heat transfer and pressure loss by a single index number expressed by entropy generation rate can be considered to give a guidepost to an optimum design for an electronic equipment cooling system from a stand point of a balance among coolability and fan/blower acoustic noise level etc..
