Numerical simulation is performed for the development and stability of natural convection in three-dimensional cavity with heat source on the bottom wall. The basic equations are formulated for the variables of vector-potential and vorticity on the assumption of the Boussinesq approximation. Upstream difference scheme is applied for the investigation of the three-dimensional flow at the Rayleigh number of 2 × 10^5 - 8 × 10^5. A special attention is paid to the initial stage of the flow development. For this purpose, visualization technique is utilized to clarify a relation between a change in the average Nusselt number and flow behavior in an enclosure.
