Development and simulation of a mathematical model for a direct melting process of municipal wastes were studied in this paper. Ground and compressed solid wastes are fed to the top of the reactor, and pure oxygen with LPG is charged into the bottom of the reactor. The solid waste particle and the gas contact countercurrently in the reactor. The model of the reactor consists of material and heat balances for the solid phase and the gas phase. Models of drying, pyrolysis and combustion & melting zones are developed. In the combustion & melting zone, the model is based on an assumption of chemical equilibrium reactions in terms of 10 gas components. On the basis of this model, the distributions of gas and solid temperatures along the height of the reactor and the distribution of diameter of the solid waste particle along the height, are calculated.
