In order to protect the earth's environment, use of a practical energy source, which does not release carbon dioxide, is required. To accomplish this, a cassette type nuclear reactor system is proposed, which supplies energy for facilities such as an office building. The compact nuclear reactor MR-1G was designed to be installed in the basement of a building for heat supply. It is characterized with the very simple design without any circulating pumps and a pressurizer. The containment vessel of the MR-1G has also the function of transport cask. The reactor has the passive safety system to assure the safety without help of operators or use of emergency generators. The concept of the MR-1G was discussed and function of the safety system was analyzed.
