In this paper, we propose a new method of quality test of a transmission device according to the acoustic data by using the Self-Organizing Maps (SOM). In the practical production, we need not only evaluate the quality of a product, but also determine the kind of no good product and give the cause of failure. In this paper, we extract the feature vectors from the acoustic data of transmission devices, and then we classify the no good products by using the SOM. According to the kind of the no good product, we can estimate the cause of failure. The experimental result shows that a competitive neural network with the SOM algorithm can solve the problem of quality test of transmission devices successfully.
