The creep behaviour of various heat resistant steels and nickel base alloys can be described by a modified Garofalo equation which includes primary, secondary and tertiary creep as well as initial plastic strain. Such creep equations can be established on the basis of time temperature parameter supported multi-heat assessments. In addition a time temperature dependent contraction has to be considered on nickel base alloys. The creep equations can independently be examined and optimized on the basis of a direct creep curve assessment. With a modified stress concept the behaviour of an individual material can be expressed. The direct creep curve assessment can be used to eliminate the effect of stress increase due to scaling induced metal loss of the test pieces. By finite element recalculation of the local necking of ruptured test pieces a critical strain can be estimated. For the description of cyclic creep rupture behaviour under variable tension and compression stresses, creep rate based 1D-constitutive equations can be established.
