The present paper proposes a novel testing strategy for testing embedded core based systems. Linear Cellular Automata (LCA) is used as Source, in order to generate deterministic test vector sets required for the cores ; and as well as a Sink, in order to verify the fault free signature of that core, as provided by the core vendors. Complete scheme of testing a System On Chip is realized using a Test Access Mechanism Switch(TAM). The proposed algorithm provides the trade-off between hardware and the test time together with all the configuration information of TAM-to-Core, Core-to-TAM connections of the SOC under test. The high level model of optimized integrated TAM Switch in Verilog format, based on the objective function, is chosen for integration of SOC from among the three alternatives generated by the proposed algorithm. The benchmark SOCs are designed and implemented using ISCAS'89 sequential circuits as cores. Simulations are carried out on these benchmark SOCs to prove the allegiance of the proposed algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate the advantage of the proposed cellular structure which is very well suited for BIST design, a significant reduction in the test time and complete test solution for testing embedded core based systems has been achieved.
