The paper describes a scaling procedure for tangent matrices in the domain decomposition method (DDM). The nonlinear dynamic equation in the DDM is obtained by the hybrid displacement formulation. In the usual DDM, the conjugate gradient (CG) method is applied to solve the equation. For fast convergence, the coefficient matrix of the equation has to be well scaled. The present scaling procedure is suitable for the nonlinear equation by cooperating with the Newton method. Some numerical examples show the effectiveness of the method as compared to the conventional scaling.
