In this paper, effects of the in-plane constraint Tx, Q as well as the out-of-plane constraint Tz are studied by aid of the finite element method on the plane strain condition. It is clear that the J-Q-Tz (three-parameter) description can describe the crack tip field better than the J-Q (two-parameter) description. However, in the blunt zone around the crack tip, the predictions of the J-Q-Tz description are not improved. Thus a local constraint parameters Tx is introduced, which is defined as tangential stress dividing normal (open) stress. Numerical analyses indicate that the two local constraint parameters Tx and Tz are both nearly independent on the specimen geometry and the loading level in the plastic zone, and they can separate the plastic zone into two parts. Based on these properties, the stress distributions around the crack tip, especially in the blunt zone can be predicted well by using three constraint parameters Q, Tz and Tx.
