This paper describes the technique of shaft machining by a general-purpose wire electric discharge machine with the rotary equipment for rotating workpiece. This machining technique can make micro rods and three-dimensional parts in a short time. It machines the outer diameter of workpiece into φ60μm from φ10mm with only one process, for instance. This method has a characteristic that the machining area becomes small according as the machining diameter approaches the outer diameter of workpiece. A liner relationship between the machining area and the mean working voltage was confirmed. By measurement of working voltage in several machining conditions, it was confirmed that the increase of machining feed rate makes machining unstable and the rising of rotational rate of workpiece stabilizes the machining.
