We measured the rain noise which caused from a metal roofing of the martial arts gymnasium. The measured points are two buildings, one is the main building of this gymnasium, and the other is the archery gymnasium annexed to the main building. The roofing of the main building is made of the metal which is laminated damping layer, to increase its damping property. On the other hand, the roofing of the archery gymnasium is made of steel, but not treated by damping material. Through this measurement, we found a clear effectiveness of the noise reduction. The noise level caused from the roof treated by damping material became around 3,or 4dB lower than that caused from the conventional metal roofing. From these results, we anticipated noise levels within a large space using experimental and sound propagation equation.
