Increasing global competition has made it clearer and clearer that the competition is happened not among final products but actually the entire supply chains supporting the availability of the final products. This paper focuses on how to improve production flexibility from the planning point of view, which has been regarded as one of the main supply chain challenges. Before any solution discussed, analysis is provided to answer why production flexibility needs to be improved and what are the relevant factors for it. Three solutions, which are integration of R/3^1 and APO^2,global ATP/CTP (Available To Promise/Capable To Promise) and re-planning/scheduling mechanisms, are introduced as parts of mySAP SCM solutions. Finally, a case study with quantified benefits by adopting mySAP SCM is presented.
