On board experiments were carried out in a spent fuel transport vessel the ROKUEI MARU, in which 3 casks of NFT-14P were loaded in No. 2 and No. 3 holds, respectively, and neutron and gamma-ray dose rate distributions were measured on the hatch covers of the holds, passage way in the holds, and accommodation rooms in the ship. Before transporting those casks, dose rates were also measured on the cask surfaces, one by one, to eliminate radiation from other casks. The Monte Carlo analysis was carried out the measured neutron and gamma-ray dose rate distributions on the cask surfaces and in the transport vessel and the calculated results were compare with the measured dose rates. The calculated total dose rates (neutron and gamma-ray dose rates) on the hold 3 hatch cover over estimated with the measured values by a factor of 5 ∿ 8. The reason of the over estimation might be due to the conservative values for the atomic density of hydrogen in the resin shield of the casks and also in the serpentine concrete, trickiness of the concrete, iron partition plate in the hatch covers, and some arm-strengthens in the vessel.
