MGC (Melt-Growth Composite) is the first material in the world, which has an eutectic composition of two-phase oxide. The material has the unique structure with two phases connected keeping a single crystal form respectively. The material is known to show high strength unchanged at the temperature as high as 1700℃, from its strength at room temperature. The material is also known for its strong acid-resistance capability. Therefore, gas-turbines are expected to improve their efficiency drastically by applying the material to their hot parts. The research project of "Technology for MGC ultra high-efficiency gas-turbine system" has been started since 2001. This paper describes the outline of the material and the activities of the research project.
