In recent years, the speed up of ship is advanced in the world. Also, in Japan, the way of the transport is to be shifted from land transport to seaway. Therefore, the requirement of high-speed vessels with high-speed, high power density, lightweight and high efficient engine is increasing. To cope with this requirement, Niigata V16FX high-speed diesel engine was developed and delivered for high-speed vessels, passenger ships, patrol boats and so on since 1992. Aiming to satisfy higher output demands, V20FX has been developed using the experience of preceding V16FX and the state of the art. V20FX was developed as the engine with the lightweight, compactness, high durability and high reliability. This engine has simple structure with single stage turbo-charging system by high performance turbochargers achieving mean effective pressure 2.5MPa, mean piston speed 12.1m/s, power rate 30.3MPa・m/s and maximum output 250kW/cyl at (1650min)^<-1>.
