The lateral vibration of high-speed trains in tunnel by aerodynamic force has recently become a subject of discussion concerning riding comfort. We developed a wind tunnel experiment to estimate aerodynamic force acting on trains in tunnel and explored the optimal aerodynamic shape of the train. The result showed that effective countermeasures to decrease the aerodynamic force are a long wedge-shaped nose, rounding the lower section of the car and installing fins under the train.
