Typical characteristics of fracture of high temperature advanced materials and components in land-base industrial gas turbines, are introduced. Special focus is put on thermo-mechanical fatigue failure of microstructurally controlled Ni-base superalloys and the environmental barrier coatings. A new life prediction method is proposed, applying micromechanics approach. The method provides some quantitative estimations on the intrinsic quantities relating to the TMF failures and the remaining life prediction, e. g., changes of stiffness, residual stress and their changes with TMF damage.
