For the Seikan undersea tunnel, that is now under construction and is 54 km in length, it is necessary to prepare mechanical ventilating system as a countermeasure of inner temperature rising. To make clear the basis of designing ventilating system in the Seikan tunnel, the inner temperature is simulated. The earth temperature around the tunnel, very important factor in this simulation but accompanying great difficulties in direct measurement, is estimated by a new method from the temperature of discharged ground water. From the simulation, the relations among heat produced in tunnel, power of ventilation and the maximum inner temperature are made clear. Moreover, as the maximum inner temperature happen to be near Hakodate side entrance, a method of alleviation of the temperature is also investigated.
