A combined experimental and computational investigation was performed in order to evaluate the effect of various design parameters of in-line injection pump on the nozzle exit characteristics for DI diesel engines. Measurements of the pumping chamber pressure and the delivery valve lift were included for validation by using specially designed transducers installed inside the pump. The results confirm that the simulation model is capable of predicting the pump operation for all the different designs investigated pump operating conditions. Following that successful validation of this model, parameteic studies were performed which could allow improved fuel injection system design.
