The influence of the inlet flow on mixed-flow fan noise is presented. The performance of mixed -flow fans is greatly affected by both magnitude and direction of inlet flow velocity. The inlet flow and fan noise are measured under several conditions such as surrounding walls on the suction side, duct length of casing, and operating points. The three-dimensional velocity components of inlet flow are measured with a single, slanted hot-wire probe. On the basis of these results, the relationship between inlet flow and fan noise is discussed.
