The infrared diffusion angle of cold-rolled steel sheets which have a wide range of surface roughness, from specular to very rough ; Beckmann's diffusion index values ranging from 0. 02 to 132, is affected by the surface roughness, measuring wavelength, etc. However, the effect of these two elements of surface roughness and wavelength has not yet been fully clarified with cold-rolled steel sheets, although the effect of each roughness charateristic has been described in many papers. In this paper, the effect of suface roughness, described as the surface inclination angle for measuring wavelength on the infrared diffusion angle, has been studied with the infrared diffusion angle experimental data for 2, 5 and l0μm wavelength on 7 sheets of cold-rolled steel. An experimental model obtained using a statistical method and a physical model which includes a modified Beckmann equation have been obtained, and their good agreement with measureing values is demonstrated with their variance level.
