There are fastened structures composed of rotary disc and shaft, which are loaded with rotating bending force. In many cases, they are fastened with nuts having a tapered bearing surface. However, the rotating loosening mechanism has not been cleared. In this study, the rotating mechanism of this nut was investigated from theoretical and experimental view points. Finally two kinds of mechanism were derived. One is due to two friction torques occurring both on threads and on bearing surface. The larger torque between them determines the rotating direction of the nut. The other is due to the eccentricities of the bolt, the nut and the tapered bearing surface of rotary disc. They cause fastening or loosening rotation in one turn of rotary disc. Those two mechanisms rotate the nut after many cyclic rotating loading.
