An Analysis of Transient Combustion States of Diffusion Flame

This paper presents a three zone combustion model and a method of analysis with the intention of developing a prediction procedure with short computing time which can be applied to the estimation of the dynamic characteristics of combustion chamber. The calculated results with respect to the transient flame developing with the supply of propane gas fuel to the chamber with pulse- and step-wise changes of flow rate are compared with the measured results obtained through an on-line operation of a digital computer. It was revealed that this method of analysis is useful for the estimation of the space- and time-varying changes of the states which are most required for understanding the phenomenon, such as heat release rate, temperature and velocity.
