The present paper deals with some examinations on the kneading effect of thermoplastics by the screw extruder from a hydrodynamical point of view. Provided that the ratio between the rate of flow and drag flow K=Q/Q_d is known, the rate of shear D and its mean D in the direction of the channel depth can be determined. Consequently if the distribution of K along the screw length is known, the total amount of kneading can be guessed.
