• Recently, such problems as"windup", "shake"and"road noise"have received considerable attention as primary causes of interior noise in automobiles. In order to reduce the noise caused by vibrations in automobiles, the author has analysed the principal characteristics of automobile vibration generally. He has divided an automobile into several vibrational systems, and has attempted to analyse the characteristics of the aggregate system by coupling individual systems by force or displacement at various joints. This paper presents a general analysis of automobile vibration, dealing mainly with passenger cars with independent front suspension and rigid axle rear suspension.
