In this paper, the completely reversed axial and torsional low-cycle fatigue behaviors were studied in comparison with each other on smoothed specimens of 0.09% carbon steel. Both the fatigue tests were carried out by the following different procedures ; (1) constant strain cycling tests at constant temperature of room temperature to 450℃, (2) sequential strain cycling tests in two strain levels at room temperature and 350℃, (3) constant strain cycling tests at varying temperature in two levels of room temperature and 350℃. Comparing both the reversed axial and torsional fatigue test results in terms of the equivalent plastic strain and the equivalent stress computed by the maximum shearing stress criterion, we found certain relationships about the variations of maximum stresses during strain cycling and the fatigue lives at constant strain cycling tests and about the cumulative cycle ratios at two step tests.
