A new combustion method for decreasing the emission level of nitrogen oxides is studied and developed. The combustion is divided into two parts, the primary and the secondary, and about 50-60 % of the stoichiometric air is supplied to the primary combustion to complete the 'partial combustion'. We found that considerable amounts of HCN and NH_3 are formed in this region and these are closely connected with the overall emission level of Nox. These primarily formed nitrogen compounds are converted to NOx through the secondary combustion at the rate of about 80 %. Completely premixed 'partial combustion' is effective to decrease these compounds, and therefore, the overall emission level of NOx. The effects of some catalysts are also studied.
