Recently, the so-called fluid pressure test of brittle materials attracts public attention as anew cutting method. IN this work, brittle materials are assumed to be cut by a pressurised fluid which penetrates numerous surface cracks. Then, using the multiaxial-distribution function referred to surface cracks proposed in the previous work, the expected value of the rupture pressure in a lateral fluid pressure test is analysed. The calculated values coincide fairly well with the experimental results obtained by Sato et al. with marble cylinders.
