Crystalline grains of metal are refined through solidification process with horizontal circular vibration which consists of only a revolutional component and does not include a rotational component. In this paper it is revealed through experiments with horizontal circular vibration are made much finer under optimum condition of mold wall, that is, of material, surface roughness of mold wall and enclosed air between molten metal and mold wall. A mechanism of the above grain refinement caused by vibration is investigated through a model in which crystals of equi-axial crystalline grain are generated on cooling surface, which is usually mold wall, and more crystals are generated on it under mold vibration.
