Adiabatic elastic constants for aluminum are calculated by a pseudopotential method in various atomic volumes, which correspond to arbitrary pressure and temperature. A temperature dependence of the ideal strength and the surface energy is evaluated from the stress-strain relation in <100> deformation mode up to the fracture strain. Using Lindemann's low, a pressure dependence of the melting point is also evaluated from the elastic constant C_<11> at the melting temperature and is compared with existing experimental data. Finally, a method to obtain isothermal elastic constants is discussed by using Gruneisen parameter defined for <100> deformation.
