An EHD squeeze film under step load is different from a conventional approach problem from a distance. In this report, squeeze films between a spherical thruster and a compliant surface under step load are investigated as a fundamental study on transient EHD squeeze films between wavy surfaces. The thruster shows damping oscillation if its mass is large and the viscosity of the fluid is low. The effect of the initial position reduces with time and becomes negligible. Since the film thickness increases in the early stage near the center, a concave face in which the fluid is trapped appears even if the initial central film is very thin. It is also found that a large step load results in a large film thickness untill the final stage of transition.
