Studies of High Performance Composite Materials using SiC Whisker

The author proposed a new production method of the composite materials with excellent properties using SiC whisker. A series of measurements were made on specific gravity, microstructure, heat resisting temperature, specific heat, thermal conductivity, linear expansion coefficient, thermal shock resistance, electric resistance and transverse bending strength of composite materials combining Mo, B and Al. Heat resisting temperature was as high as 1973K, thermal shock resistance was very high, and electric resistance was lower than that of SiC heating element on the market. Industrial applications as super high heat resisting material and high temperature heating element are promising.
