An approximate theory of cascades of airfoils is given in the present paper based on the following principles : firstly, induced potential by an airfoil composing the cascade is represented by the expansion of the complex potential near the point of infinity and the field of complex potential at the position of an airfoil is calculated by summation of induced potentials of all the other airfoils ; secondly, the boundary condition is satisfied by using the theory of airfoil in non-uniform flow. Amount of numerical calculations of the present method is relatively little and the method is especially suitable to see the effect of cascade conditions on airfoil characteristics. This method, however, loses accuracy for small values of pitch. The results of numerical calculations on the flat plate cascade and the NACA 6409 section show fairly good agreement with the exact ones over a range where pitch is larger than 1.2 or 1.4 times of the chord.
