The author prepared new two series of strong light aluminium alloys by special heat-and mechanical treatments. One of them, called C6 alloy, contains 6% copper and 94% aluminium. Its mechanical properties are as follows : 1mm plate. [table] As seen from the Table, the new alloy is non inferior to, or rather excells Duralumin. The composition of the other series of alloys, MC, is as follows : Copper‥‥‥‥1-2% Magnesium‥‥‥‥0.5-1% Aluminium‥‥Balance. These alloys, after properly worked, are quenched at 520℃ and cold-worked to some extent, then annealed at 150℃. The finished 2mm plates of this material have the following mechanical properties. Maximnm tensile strength‥‥‥‥‥‥44-57kg/mm^2 Elastic limit (3/1000")‥‥‥‥‥‥‥38-45kg/mm^2 Elongation (50mm)‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥7-9% Brinell hardness number‥‥‥‥‥‥112-140 Comparing his new alloys, including MS alloy published in the Jurnal of the Iron & Steel Institute of Japan, Vol. XI, No.6, 1925 (Si=0.5-2%, Mg=0.4-0.6%, balance A1), the author reviewed the general tendency of making light aluminium alloy, mainly for aeronautical use.
