This paper is concerned with the development of medical micro-robots using a permanent magnet and alternating magnetic field. Locomotive characteristics of medical swimming micro-robots working in human blood vessels are studied experimentally. The swimming micro-robot is composed of a permanent magnet and a film tail. The driving mechanism of the micro-robot utilizes the hydrodynamics of swimming uniflagellar micro-organism. The swimming micro-robot is examined in a transparent pipe filled with some liquids. Test liquids used in the experiment are water and glycerol. The dynamic behavior of the swimming micro-robot is analyzed by the high speed video camera system. It is found that the locomotive velocity of the micro-robot in liquids depends on the frequency of alternating magnetic field and dimensions of the film tail. The effect of the gravity on the swimming of micro-robot is also revealed.
