Large numbers of rotating machines are used in thermal power plants, and preventing sudden failures and reducing the maintenance costs are two important objectives in their operation. This paper introduces some examples where the on-line rotating machinery diagnosis system was implemented for the purpose of improving equipment reliability and reduceing the maintenance costs. Furthermore, the effects of the diagnosis system and problems in maintenance cost reduction will be discussed.
