Bone implant materials require specific properties to be biocompatible and bioactive, ideally being replaced by naturally generated bone over time. We have developed a number of novel biomaterials over recent years that meet many of the requirements of suitable implant materials including macroporous hydroxyapatite cements, porous calcium carbonate shells and porous bioactive silica glasses. Some of these materials have undergone bioactivity testing to determine their bone generating properties.
