The survival rate and time of Na 2 strain of mice, exposed to lethal dose of X-rays, was found to be significantly increased after pretreatment with histamine in dosage of 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20 mg per mouse, most effective in dosage of 5 mg. The optimal dose level for protection may be different in different strain of mice. As a possible mechanism of radioprotective activity of histamine the property of producing a temporary tissue anoxia was discussed.
