For the injection molding of ceramic materials with the addition of thermoplastic resins the latter should have, besides the proper thermoplasticity, the volatility which gurantees the complete disappearance of the organic materials during the firing process without leaving any effect such as blister, deformation and crack.As the basic experiments such properties as (1) volatility and (2) the influence of the various lubricants and plasticizers were studied with the following results:The molding property in the injection is closely related with the density of the ceramic materials; in general, the higher the density the better will be the results. The materials having low density are rather difficults to form by injection molding.It was confirmed that the non plastic ceramic materials gave better fluidity than ordinary plastics at low temperatures, and that the addition of D. E. P. lowered remarkably the fluid-temperature.For the injection molding of Al2O3 powder the addition of 14-16% polystyrene, 2-4% stearic acid and 0-2% D. E. P. showed good moldability and could be molded comparatively easily.
