Kerr Effect of Some New Organic Kerr Solutions

The electro optic Kerr constant of many new organic soltrtions cotnprising of the substittntedaromatic carbonyl and nitrile compounds as soltttes in nitrobenzene, for various rnolar concentrations of the solutes has been meastrred. We found several solutions having Kerr constantsgreater than that of nitrobenzene. The interactions between the components in these solutionshave been established to be dipole-dipole in nattrre for the first tittae by conducting experimentsand treasuring the dipolenaounents for solutions of variotrs rnolar concentrations. The variationsof the dipole nuoment with concentration in many solutions have been found to follow the sametrend of variations of Kerr constant with molar concentration.
