The "Li and 'Li nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rates, ("Z'l ) ' and ("Z'.) ) ', have been rnea-sured for LiCoOz as a function of tenaper?tttrre. Comparison between Li- and 'Li-rich samplesshows that the ratio ("Z'l ) ' / ("Tt ) ' : 0.06 is considerably larger than the valtre expected forquadrupolar relaxation processes. Furtherzauore ("It) ' decreases significantly as "Li is replacedby Li. These observations indicate that ("V'l) ' is dominated by the nuclear magnetic dipole-dipole interaction between the "Li nuclei. The strbstittrtion of Cr for Co has no effect on ("T) ) 'in the range below 20OK, whereas the substittrtion of [Na for Li enhances ("Z'l) '. The sttbstitution effect supports the view that the two-dimensional Li ion motion is dominant in LiCoO3.The weak dependence of ("Z'l ) 1 upon ternperattrre and freqtrency suggests the presence of abroad distribution of barrier heights for ionic unotion in LiCo03.
