Study of Cu-O and Cu-La Pair Correlation in Superconducting La_2CuO_<4.1> System by Cu K-Edge EXAFS

We report CLL K-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra up to higltnuotnenturn transfer meastrred on a strjcercondtrcting L02C1lO4.1 single crystal ttsittg in-planepolarization of' synchrotrort light. Tlae EXAFS data xvith a high signal to noise ratio has enabledthe precise determination of the Deby'e- XVa1ler f;tctors and the pair correlations of Cu -0 (planar)and Ctr -La pairs of' the strtrcttrrally cotaaplex strpercondtrcting s3'steun. XVe have observed ananornalous behaviotrr of the pair correlations at xl70 K and attributed it to an interplay betweenternperattrre-dependent strtrcttrral tnodtrlation of the perovskite and rock-salt layers in the titlecompound.
