The quantum theory of dislocation dynamics has been worked otmt in order to interrelate thedislocation mobility and the strength of solid rnaterials such as bcc iron and covalent-bondingsilicon crystals. The theory is a contintration of' the sttrdy on fcc copper, which has been publishedin 1995. The dislocation mobility in these materials is described in terms of resonant transferof dislocations induced by a perturbation due to an externally applied shear stress. The presentwork has been able to derive successfully the yield strength frona the dislocation mobility in allthe materials investigated so far.
